I'd advise you go to traffic court and negotiate a lower fine. If you don't pay the ticket then they could issue a warrant for your arrest or convict you in absence of a trial (either outcome depends on the provincial laws regarding running a red light). If a warrant is out on you, it doesn't mean the cops will come for you. What it means is if you are ever stopped for anything else, the cops will run your ID through the computer and see a warrant out on you and will arrest you or require you to appear in court with a release document. Either way, best to work out a deal and then pay on an instalment plan. Or challenge the ticket in court. I know all this because I worked in Traffic Court in Calgary.
